As many as 553 prisoners in Dubai have been pardoned ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

It comes following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed's gesture is aimed at giving the pardoned inmates an opportunity to start a new life and reintegrate into society.

It will also help ease the distress of their families.

Dubai Public Prosecution, in collaboration with Dubai Police, has already commenced the legal procedures to implement Sheikh Mohammed’s order.
