UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has congratulated Japan's Sanae Takaichi, who is set to become Japan's first female prime minister after winning a critical vote in the parliament's lower house.

Sheikh Mohamed wished her success in "leading the country towards further progress and development".

The UAE leader also expressed his excitement in working with Takaichi to "deepen UAE-Japan ties" building on the foundations of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements set to be formalised between the two nations.

Takaichi tallied a total of 237 votes in the lower house election, topping the majority of the 465-seat chamber.
