Authorities in Sharjah are stepping up efforts to ensure safe movement of traffic and pedestrians on New Year's Eve.
A comprehensive security and traffic management plan has been chalked out by the Sharjah Police in coordination with other official entities.
Security patrols will be stepped up on major roads and intersections, and also around venues hosting New Year celebrations.
Brigadier General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, chaired a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the force's readiness and preparations.
He called on the public to cooperate with police personnel and to comply with the traffic safety regulations.
The official also advised people to dial 999 only for emergencies and to contact 901 for all general enquiries and non-emergencies.
