Firefighter dies tackling Business Bay fire

Dubai Civil Defence have paid tribute to a firefighter who died while trying to control a blaze in a building under construction in Business Bay.

Corporal Tariq Abdullah Ali Al Hawai was based at Al Etihad fire station.

In a statement, the Dubai Civil Defence said the 28-year-old died from injuries sustained after he fell from the fourth floor.

Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, sent his condolences to the firefighter's family.

Officials said no civilians were injured in the fire that broke out in the parking floors of the tower on Saturday morning.

The command room was alerted about the fire at 10:40 am.

Firefighters from three different stations in the area were deployed to extinguish it.
