Private schools in Dubai have the option to start the day earlier or finish later to make sure teaching hours are not reduced when they shift to a four-and-a-half day week in January.

That's according to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), which said schools must first consult with parents before taking this decision.

The education regulator also confirmed that school hours cannot be extended beyond 12:00 pm on Fridays.

The details of the new workweek, which comes into effect on January 3, were outlined in a guide released by the KHDA.
