Abu Dhabi residents await news on introduction of toll gates

KARIM SAHIB / AFP

Residents of Abu Dhabi are busy discussing the prospect of toll gates being introduced in the capital.

Viral messages began spreading on social media yesterday and are as yet unconfirmed by the Department of Transport.

The ARN News Centre has reached out to them for official comments.

UAE authorities regularly warn residents not to believe rumours they read on social media.

According to the messages, authorities are planning to install toll gates on the Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Sheikh Khalifa Bridge, Mussafah Bridge and Maqta Bridge.

Dubai introduced its Salik toll gate system in 2007 to reduce traffic on the city's busiest roads.
