UAE and Azerbaijan seal major economic partnership deal

WAM

The UAE and Azerbaijan have signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), aimed at strengthening economic ties and driving mutual growth across key sectors.

The signing was witnessed by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The trade pact will open new opportunities in renewable energy, tourism, logistics and construction services, while also boosting investment and private sector collaboration.

Sheikh Mohamed said the agreement reflects the UAE’s commitment to building global partnerships that promote sustainable development, peace and economic opportunity.

UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi and Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov formalized the deal, which also aims to strengthen supply chains and empower SMEs to expand globally.

The CEPA builds on growing trade ties, with non-oil trade between the two countries reaching $2.4 billion in 2024, a 43 per cent year-on-year increase. The UAE is also the top Arab investor in Azerbaijan, with investments exceeding $1 billion.

The agreement is part of the UAE’s broader strategy to increase non-oil foreign trade to $1.1 trillion by 2031, and reflects its commitment to open, rules-based trade and sustainable global partnerships.
