New UAE-Oman freight rail link to boost regional trade

Abu Dhabi Media Office

A new freight rail service is set to connect Sohar in Oman with Abu Dhabi in the UAE, marking a major step forward in regional trade and logistics.

Noatum Logistics, part of AD Ports Group, has signed a preliminary agreement with Hafeet Rail — the company behind the first cross-border railway network between the UAE and Oman.

Once operational, the daily service will run seven container trains a week, each carrying up to 276 TEUs, with an annual capacity of over 190,000 containers.

It will handle a wide range of goods, from food and pharmaceuticals to manufactured products and general cargo.

The move is expected to boost supply chain efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and strengthen regional supply chains.

The new route builds on Noatum’s existing rail service between Khalifa Port and Fujairah Terminals, which was launched in the third quarter of 2024.
