Watch: Smart marine scraper keeps Dubai's waters clean

Supplied

A smart boat, which is designed to collect floating waste in creeks and water canals, has been unveiled by Dubai Municipality.

The remotely-operated 'marine scraper' has the capacity to collect and transport 1,000 kg of waste.

It features an advanced control system that uses 5G networks to execute precise manoeuvres, with real-time monitoring made possible through satellite technology.

The scraper also has an interactive external environment system, which enhances marine safety by automatically preventing collisions.

It has been developed locally by Emirati talents in collaboration with Al Khattal Boat Factory.

Dubai Municipality has a dedicated team to oversee the cleanliness of water canals and creeks spanning over 35 km (19 nautical miles).

This team includes 12 captains, 25 workers and sailors, who are supported by 12 marine vehicles.
