UAE to roll out new EV charging tariffs

UAEV, the UAE’s first government-owned electric vehicle charging network, has announced the implementation of the new EV tariffs from the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, set to take effect in January 2025.

Though the tariffs were first announced in May, EV charging services have remained free. However, starting next year, users will pay a standardised fee of AED 1.2 per kilowatt-hour, plus VAT, for DC chargers, and AED 0.70 per kilowatt-hour, plus VAT, for AC chargers.

This move aims to support the growth and sustainability of the network.

To further enhance the EV experience, UAEV is launching a mobile app that will help users locate charging stations, get live status updates, and make payments easily. Additionally, a dedicated 24/7 call centre will provide round-the-clock support for users.

Sharif al Olama, Chairman of UAEV, emphasized that these changes are a significant step toward the UAE’s sustainable transportation goals.

He added that by 2030, UAEV plans to expand its network to 1,000 chargers across the UAE, ensuring better access for electric vehicle drivers throughout the country.
