UAE Food Bank to distribute 8 million meals during Ramadan

Dubai Media Office

The UAE Food Bank has launched its Ramadan campaign, aiming to provide eight million meals by redistributing surplus food to beneficiaries in the UAE and abroad.

Titled 'Bank of Goodness in the Month of Giving', the initiative focuses on reducing food waste while promoting the values of charity and community support during the holy month.

It features five main initiatives. 'Charity Fridge' places refrigerators in residential neighbourhoods, allowing people to donate surplus iftar and suhoor meals safely.

'My Home Without Waste' raises awareness about smarter food storage and reducing household waste. 'Meer Al Khair' will distribute essential food parcels to families in need.

'Zabeel Iftar' will host a collective iftar for workers, while 'Recycle, Re-life' will redistribute edible surplus food and convert non-edible waste into compost.

The UAE Food Bank says the campaign supports national food security goals, promotes a circular economy, and helps reduce carbon emissions by managing surplus food more efficiently.

Officials are also encouraging strong community and volunteer participation throughout Ramadan, from food collection to distribution, to ensure support reaches as many beneficiaries as possible.
