In a pivotal step towards sustaining life on Mars, two UAE citizens are going to be a part of an eight-month-long simulated mission with space-like conditions.

The mission is being termed 'Analog Mission #1' and is the first Emirati analog mission.

According to a tweet from the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, the two members will be named soon.

The programme will be conducted in the NEK ground-based facility in Moscow, Russia as part of the Mars 2117 mission.

It will help study the effects of isolation and confinement on human psychology, physiology and team dynamics to help prepare for long term space expeditions.

The UAE cohort will be joined by members from other countries.
