Some UK education boards cancel IGCSE, A-level exams for UAE

Some UK education boards have announced cancellation of IGCSE and International A Level exams in the UAE that were scheduled to be held in May and June.

In emails sent to UAE schools, QxfordAQA said the decision was made "after consulting closely with the Ministry of Education, schools, and other international exam boards".

The cancellation is known to affect IGCSE English as a Second Language, along with other OxfordAQA-assessed subjects.

In an update on its website, Pearson Edexcel confirmed that IGCSE, International A level and iPLS exams in Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Lebanon have been cancelled.

It's in response to the current situation, with the safety of students and staff placed first, the board added.

"We have long-standing, tried-and-tested contingency processes to support schools through any exam disruption. Our priority will always be to support student progression through their courses, and ultimately to the grade that reflects their performance," Emma Whale, Vice President, International Schools, added.

This follows earlier decisions to cancel International Baccalaureate and CBSE examinations.
