The Roads and Transport Authority is upgrading the Airport Road. It's part of its plan to to cater to the projected growth in the number of travellers passing through Dubai International Airport, which is expected to touch 92 million passengers by 2020. Reports suggest the project will contribute to increasing the handling capacity by an extra 5,000 vehicles per hour. New bridges and tunnels will be constructed on Al Rashidiya and Airport Road interchange with each of Casablanca Road, Marrakech Road and Nad Al Hamar Road. The project will be complete by 2017, at a cost of AED 404 million.
