Dubai fines 591 public transport riders for not paying fare

As many as 591 people have been fined in Dubai for using public transport without paying for it, during the Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) latest inspection drive.

Conducted between July 17-22, inspectors clocked 693 violations in total, with 33 people penalised for failing to show a nol card when asked and five for using invalid nol cards. 

During the inspection carried out in Al Ghubaiba, 22 fines were issued for using unlicensed vehicles for transporting people and six vehicles were seized.

Inspection drives relating to unlicensed transport activities and fare evasion on public transport were carried out in June and July.

They were conducted in collaboration with the Dubai Police and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners’ Affairs.
