An online appointment system has been introduced for those looking to take the new laser-based COVID-19 test while heading to Abu Dhabi.

The Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee has announced that the rapid screenings are only available with prior bookings.

The testing site near Ghantoot on the Dubai-Abu Dhabi border was temporarily closed on Wednesday following massive queues of commuters lining up for the instant checks.

The website for booking appointments is up and running but authorities haven’t specified whether the screening centre has reopened.

The Abu Dhabi Media Office has added that travellers with a negative PCR test report will continue to be allowed into the emirate within 48 hours from receiving the result.

It’s urged everyone to take the regular tests in advance as much as possible to avoid potential delays.
