H.H. Sheikh Hamdan: public beaches key to Dubai’s urban fabric

Dubai Media Office

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai's Crown Prince and the UAE's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, has reviewed progress on the Jumeirah Beach 1 redevelopment project.

It's one of Dubai Municipality’s key initiatives to enhance public beach infrastructure and waterfront experiences.

The project, now over 95 per cent complete, spans 1,400 metres and will reopen in early February as a fully integrated coastal destination.

Visitors can expect modern recreational and sports facilities, family-friendly amenities and dedicated paths for walking, cycling and jogging.

Sheikh Hamdan said the development reflects Dubai’s vision for sustainable, people-focused urban planning, ensuring world-class public spaces that promote wellbeing and active lifestyles.

The upgrade includes smart technologies such as Wi-Fi, electronic displays, AI-enabled rescue systems and climate-resilient features like raised beach levels and clean sand replenishment.

More than 15 investment opportunities in retail, dining and leisure will also be introduced.

The project supports the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 and Urban Master Plan 2040, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global destination for beach tourism.
