His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, has announced a new Life and Biodiversity Laboratory, as part of efforts to promote conservation science and protect species from extinction.

In a social media post, Sheikh Hamdan said the initiative, unveiled at the World Governments Summit, is being developed in collaboration with the US-based Colossal Foundation, with Museum of the Future designated as the laboratory’s permanent home, making the scientific experience accessible to the public while showcasing innovations aimed at deepening understanding of the natural world.

The announcement comes as the UAE expands work with Colossal Biosciences, whose projects include biodiversity research and conservation technologies. A press release issued by the company said the Museum of the Future will also host a “BioVault” and “World Preservation Lab” concept, designed to support scientific research and the long-term preservation of genetic material from threatened species.

Organisers say the project is intended to help build awareness of biodiversity loss and to showcase scientific innovations that could contribute to species protection, as governments and researchers look for new approaches to conservation.

The World Governments Summit runs from February 3-5, bringing together policymakers and industry leaders to discuss major global challenges, including technology, sustainability and the future of government.
