First day of Eid Al Fitr announced in the UAE

The first day of Eid Al Fitr will be marked in the UAE on Monday, May 2.

This is according to the country's official moon-sighting committee, which announced that May 2 will be the first day of the month of Shawwal and the first day of Eid Al Fitr.

The meeting was held today after Maghrib prayers to look for the new moon.

Islamic months can last 29 or 30 days, depending on the lunar calendar.

Holidays have already been announced in the UAE, the private sector holiday will run until Wednesday, May 4, while the public sector will return to work on Monday, May 9.
