Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is reporting impressive results from Phase 1 of its upgraded central traffic signal control system.

The next-generation 'UTC-UX Fusion' system has boosted traffic flow efficiency by between 16 per cent and 37 per cent across key corridors, including Jumeirah Street, Al Badaa, Kuwait Street and Omar Bin Al Khattab Street.

Mohammed Al Ali, Director of the RTA’s Intelligent Traffic Systems Department, says the system uses AI and predictive analytics to detect congestion and adjust signals in real time.

It also applied digital twin technology to simulate traffic scenarios before rollout.

Travel times have improved by 10 per cent to 20 per cent overall, with smoother coordination between intersections and priority given to emergency vehicles, public transport and pedestrians.

The upgrade supports all modes of transport and is designed to integrate with future smart mobility technologies.

Full implementation is expected by the third quarter of 2026, covering 300 intersections across the city.
