Dubai has launched a major tree-planting drive to mark the 20-year leadership milestone of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Under the initiative led by Dubai Municipality and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), 20,000 trees will be planted across public parks, residential neighbourhoods and educational institutions.

The project aims to create lasting environmental and social impact, boost quality of life, and reinforce Dubai’s leadership in sustainable development.

Tree-planting activities will involve schools, universities, public and private entities, and community members.

To support this initiative, Dubai Municipality has designated several parks, including Al Barsha South, Al Barsha Pond Park, Nakheel Park in Al Aweer, the Quranic Garden in Al Khawaneej, Al Mizhar Second, Blossoms Park at Nad Al Sheba, Al Safa Park in Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Quoz Pond Park, and Al Warqa’a 3.

Schools and universities will register their participation through the KHDA, which will coordinate with Dubai Municipality to supply saplings and ensure smooth implementation.

Dubai Municipality’s Director General, Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, said the initiative honours the development journey led by His Highness and transforms a national milestone into a sustainable legacy for future generations.

The KHDA's Director General, Aisha Abdulla Miran, added that the initiative reflects His Highness’s commitment to a green and thriving environment, adding that every tree planted today represents gratitude from future generations and helps instil values of responsibility and belonging.

The tree-planting drive also supports the Dubai Green Project and aligns with the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040, as part of ongoing efforts to expand green spaces, improve air quality, and enhance the emirate’s urban landscape.
