Dubai Police and Oxford Technologies sign MoU

The Dubai Police General Command and Oxford Nanopore Technologies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation and consolidate their partnership in the fields of education, training, and research and development.

Major General Ahmed Thani bin Ghalita, Director of the General Department of Forensic Evidence and Criminology, said that this agreement comes within the framework of the keenness of the Dubai Police to enhance and support efforts related to research, development, and exchange of knowledge and sciences in all fields, including the field of forensic science and crime.

Such companies also contribute to identifying various experiences and practices that would enhance the performance of laboratories in the General Department of Forensic Evidence and Criminology.

“We are delighted to partner with Dubai Police to deploy Oxford Nanopore’s advanced sequencing technology,” said Tonya McSherry, Vice President,Commercial- Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India at Oxford Nanopore Technology.

“This collaboration represents a major step forward in leveraging rapid, accurate and accessible sequencing to enhance public safety and health security. By combining our innovative platform with Dubai Police’s expertise, we aim to set new standards in forensic science and pathogen detection, enabling comprehensive and timely analysis,” she added.

Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Mohammed Ali Al Marri, Director of the Genome Center at the General Department of Forensic Evidence and Criminology, stressed that this understanding contributes to the exchange of advanced expertise in the field of genomics, and enhances the leadership of Dubai Police in applying the latest technologies.
