Dubai is set to welcome a new environmental and recreational destination, the Al Layan Oasis development, spanning one million square metres and built around a large desert lake.

The launch of the project was announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Al Layan Oasis aims to showcase the beauty of the desert while promoting sustainability and enhancing quality of life for residents and visitors.

Sheikh Mohammed said the project reflects Dubai’s commitment to sustainable urban development and placing people at the heart of city planning.

The oasis is part of the Blue and Green Roadmap 2030, launched by Dubai Municipality, which invests in nature to improve wellbeing and support a sustainable, livable city.

It also complements the Dubai Countryside and Rural Areas Development Plan, preserving natural landscapes while creating unique tourism and leisure experiences.

Al Layan Oasis will include 14 kilometres of walking and cycling tracks, with 4 km of elevated paths offering panoramic desert views and connecting to existing routes in Al Marmoom, along with integrated infrastructure and 1,000 parking spaces.

Located around 50 minutes from the city centre, it will serve as a key stop along Dubai’s caravan route and is expected to attract 330,000 visitors a year.

The project is divided into four zones: the Gathering Oasis with an amphitheatre, cinema and event spaces; the Family Oasis with play areas and rest spots; the Camping Oasis for caravans and environmental education; and the Recreation Oasis, offering retail, leisure activities and services in a sustainable setting.

Dubai Municipality is also offering 365,000 square metres of investment opportunities as part of its efforts to strengthen public‑private partnerships and support the local economy.
