Dubai adds over 1,300 new food outlets in 2021

As many as 1,343 new food outlets opened in Dubai last year, which is a 50 per cent increase compared to 2020.

The figures were revealed by the municipality, which also carried out 76,195 inspection visits to food establishments.

The checks focused on safety aspects related to food preparation, storage and display, as well as hygiene and sterilization procedures.

Meanwhile, the municipality's call centre handled an average of 13 reports per day on safety violations and non-compliance with the COVID-19 precautionary measures.

Sultan Al Taher, director of the municipality's food safety department, said their inspectors are working on calibrating the temperature control devices and thermometer in food establishments, as well as making sure that food items are provided and received from an approved food source with the relevant documents and appropriate equipment and devices.
