Gargash welcomes UN council's condemnation of Iran's 'brazen aggression'

WAM

Dr Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the UAE President, on Thursday has welcomed the UN Human Rights Council’s unanimous adoption of a resolution condemning Iran's "aggression against the Arab Gulf states and Jordan".

In a post on social media platform X, he asserted that it "represents a clear international stance that underscores the gravity of these attacks and the flagrant violation of international law and state sovereignty".

He added that "targeting civilians and infrastructure, and threatening energy security and navigation, will not go unaccounted for", and add that "the right to self-defence is guaranteed".

Gargash added that the "continuation of this aggression only deepens the Iranian regime's isolation".

On Thursday, the UN Human Rights Council adopted a historic resolution, co-sponsored by over 100 states, condemning missile and drone strikes targeting civilians and critical infrastructure, including airports, ports, energy facilities, desalination plants and residential areas in the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

The resolution reaffirms the affected states’ sovereignty and right to self-defence under the UN Charter, calls on Iran to cease all attacks and comply with international law, and demands prompt reparations for victims.
