Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has discussed the latest developments on the situation in the occupied Palestinian territory and its humanitarian repercussions with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
During the phone call, Sheikh Abdullah stressed the importance of strengthening the efforts of the international community to end extremism, tension and escalating violence in the region, and to ensure the protection of all civilian lives.
He also highlighted the need to strengthen the humanitarian response to the needs of the people of Gaza, and ensure the safe and sustainable delivery of relief and medical aid to them.
On Wednesday, Guterres sent a letter about the situation in Gaza to the President of the Security Council activating Article 99 of the United Nations Charter, which allows him to take up any issues that might threaten the preservation of International peace and security.
Sheikh Abdullah confirmed that the UAE will present a draft resolution to the Security Council demanding an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons, with the support of the Arab Group and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
