As many as 41 vehicles being operated as unlicensed taxis have been seized in a joint campaign orchestrated by Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Jebel Ali Police Station.
The crackdown, conducted throughout May in Jebel Ali, recorded a total of 39 violations of which 25 were related to the use of vehicles unlicensed for passenger transportation and 14 to promoting such activities.
The campaign entailed targeting unlicensed vehicles used to transport passengers who have no connection with the driver for a fee, while the second part focused on the promotion of such operations, whether face-to-face or through social media.
Saeed Al Balooshi, Director of Passenger Transport Activities Monitoring, Public Transport Agency, RTA, said "to curb this illegal conduct, the campaign officials issue fine tickets to violators and impound the vehicles involved."
He added that they'd analysed previous data to identify sites where violations took place most frequently.
“Jebel Ali was selected as a residential and commercial area where transportation is active due to workers' movement between homes and workplaces. Coordinating with the Dubai Police made the law enforcement easier and strengthened the governance over the outlawed passenger transport services,” concluded Al Balooshi.
