Manchester City have remained five points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool after getting past a bright Everton side.

The defending champions won 3-1 on Saturday night thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling.

Earlier in the day, Liverpool maintained their perfect start to the season with a narrow victory over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Georginio Wijnaldum scored the only goal of the match in the 70th minute when goalkeeper Dean Henderson let a straightforward shot through his leg.

Elsewhere, 10-man Tottenham beat Southampton 2-1, while Chelsea got the better of Brighton 2-0.

Meanwhile, West Ham stretched their unbeaten run in the Premier League run to six matches with an entertaining 2-2 draw against Bournemouth.
