US President Donald Trump was awarded the FIFA Peace Prize on Friday at the 2026 World Cup draw in Washington, D.C.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented the award, praising Trump’s “exceptional and extraordinary actions to promote peace and unity around the world.”
Trump called the prize “one of the great honours of my life.
FIFA says the prize recognises “exceptional actions for peace and unity,” though the decision has sparked controversy among human rights groups.
Trump received the award during a glitzy show at the Kennedy Center, prior to the drawing of teams into World Cup groups for next summer’s tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
