Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) has set a new Guinness World Record for the highest capacity district cooling plant with its project in Dubai’s Business Bay.

During a ceremony at the WETEX 2024 exhibition, Empower’s CEO, Ahmad Bin Shafar, received the official certificate from a Guinness World Records representative, alongside industry leaders and notable figures.

Bin Shafar expressed pride in this achievement, stating, "With an astonishing total connected capacity of 241,272 Refrigeration Tons (RT), this achievement marks a groundbreaking milestone for Empower on the world stage."

"It reflects our deep commitment to develop high-value assets that not only deliver environmentally friendly district cooling services to Dubai’s residents but also generate long-term sustainable returns for the company and its stakeholders," he added.

Empower’s Business Bay district cooling project, one of the largest of its kind globally, boasts a future capacity of 451,540 Refrigeration Tons.

It includes nine district cooling plants, four of which are operational, serving 188 buildings and skyscrapers across Business Bay, Sheikh Zayed Road, and the Dubai Water Canal through a single distribution pipeline network of 52.4 km.

The project utilises advanced Thermal Energy Storage technologies and treated sewage effluent, showcasing Empower’s dedication to cutting-edge, eco-friendly solutions.
