UAE relaxes norms for three-person rule for cars

More than three people are now allowed to travel together in a vehicle as long as they belong to the same family.

That’s according to the Dubai Police Traffic Department’s Director, who has confirmed that first-degree relatives are also exempted from the three-person rule.

Brigadier Saif Al Mazroui explained that the move is aimed at enhancing family ties and ensuring that children are not left alone at home.

In all other cases, a fine of AED 1,000 will be imposed on the driver if the vehicle is carrying more than three individuals.

Abu Dhabi Police and Sharjah Police have also made similar announcements regarding the relaxation in the restrictions for families.

Authorities also reminded that all passengers must wear face masks, with exceptions only for drivers who travel alone.
