UAE President invited to attend G7 Summit in Canada

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has been invited to take part in the G7 Summit in Canada next week.

The invitation, sent by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, spotlights the UAE’s growing role in international security and economy.

The G7 is an informal bloc of industrialised democracies - the US, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the UK - that meets annually.

Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia's crown prince and de facto leader, will not attend the summit, a senior diplomat briefed on plans said on Thursday.

Key agenda items will include international peace and security, global economic stability and growth, the digital transition, climate action and other pressing global issues.

This year, the G7 Summit is expected to also focus on AI and digital transition, something the UAE has been increasingly recognised for worldwide.
