UAE, Cyprus sign MoU to establish energy partnership

WAM

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dr. Constantinos Kombos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership in the field of energy.

Held during a meeting in Abu Dhabi on Friday, Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the depth of the strategic relations between the UAE and Cyprus, noting that the strategic partnership provides an important framework for strengthening cooperation across various fields and supporting sustainable development plans in both countries.

The two ministers also explored opportunities to enhance collaboration across multiple key areas, including the economic, trade, and investment sectors, as well as renewable energy and technology.

They also reviewed the outcomes of the official visit paid by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Cyprus last December, and its contribution to advancing prospects for cooperation and their partnership.

Sheikh Abdullah congratulated Dr. Kombos on Cyprus's assuming the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026, highlighting the significance of the UAE's relations with the EU.

The meeting also addressed several regional and international issues of shared interest, particularly developments in the Middle East, both sides emphasising the importance of supporting efforts to promote lasting security and stability in the region.
