The UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has announced the resumption of flights to Syria.

In a statement released on national news agency Wam, the GCAA said "joint coordination is currently underway to complete the necessary procedures for restarting flights between the two countries".

The authority added that it will be done in a "manner that enhances air traffic and supports passenger and cargo movement".

Flights to and from Syria were suspended due to the civil war in the country, with some international airlines restarting services to Damascus International Airport on January 9.
