Sharjah Police seize AED 19 million in drugs hidden under artificial flooring

WAM

In an anti-drug operation, Sharjah Police, in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Police and the Federal Anti-Narcotics Department at the Ministry of Interior, dismantled a trafficking gang targeting youth in the UAE.

The operation, based on surveillance and preemptive intelligence work, resulted in the seizure of approximately 585 kilograms of narcotics, valued at over AED 19 million. According to Brigadier Majid Sultan Al Asam, Director of Sharjah Police's Anti-Narcotics Department, the gang had buried the drugs underground and concealed them beneath interlocking artificial flooring in an attempt to evade detection.

Brigadier Al Asam highlighted the gang’s innovative smuggling techniques and the increasing use of social media platforms to reach vulnerable young people. He credited the operation’s success to the professionalism of law enforcement and the use of advanced technologies, combined with close coordination among national anti-narcotics units.

To strengthen the country’s federal drug control efforts, details of the gang’s concealment methods have been shared with law enforcement agencies across the UAE. Al Asam stressed the importance of staying ahead of rapidly evolving criminal tactics and warned that traffickers are intensifying efforts to target young populations.

He also called on the community to be vigilant, urging the public to report suspicious activities via the toll-free number 8004654 or email dea@shjpolice.gov.ae.
