Reckless driver jailed and fined AED70,000 in Abu Dhabi

A motorist has been jailed for six months after the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court found him guilty of reckless driving that endangered his own life and the lives of other road users.

The court ruled the driver repeatedly swerved across a public road, deliberately putting people at risk.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a AED50,000 fine and ordered the driver to pay a further AED20,000, representing the value of the vehicle used in the offence, which belonged to another person.

The total financial penalty amounted to AED70,000.

The court also ordered the suspension of the driver's licence for one year after he completes his prison sentence.

Officials said the ruling reflects Abu Dhabi's firm stance against dangerous driving and offences that threaten public safety.
