Moon-sighting committee: Ramadan starts on Friday April 24

It has been confirmed that Friday, April 24, will be the first day of Ramadan in the UAE.

An official moon-sighting committee met virtually on Thursday evening after Maghrib prayers to determine the start of the Holy Month.

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar (Hijri) when Muslims around the world fast from dawn to sunset.

The month will end (usually 29 or 30 days) when the next crescent moon is sighted, also marking the start of Eid Al Fitr.
