Dubai awards AED 2.5 billion contracts to boost stormwater drainage network

Dubai has awarded contracts worth AED 2.5 billion for the next phase of a major upgrade to its stormwater drainage network.

The package, under the second stage of Dubai Municipality's Tasreef Programme, covers five new projects that will serve 30 key areas and support around three million residents by 2040.

The contracts include three projects for immediate execution and two for design studies, all signed with leading global infrastructure and consultancy firms.

They build on the first phase announced in 2025, as Dubai strengthens its readiness for climate challenges and rapid urban growth.

Works include a four‑metre‑wide main tunnel linking communities along Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Yalayis Road to the city’s primary drainage network, boosting capacity and operational flexibility.

Another project will deliver a 27 km integrated drainage system between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Jamayel Road to support major transport corridors and reduce water‑logging risks in industrial and logistics areas.

The programme also includes a new drainage tunnel, pumping station and stormwater collection lake along Dubai–Al Ain Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street, aimed at improving stormwater management in inland communities.

Dubai Municipality has additionally awarded design contracts for new drainage systems in Al Marmoom and Saih Al Salam, supporting tourism and residential development while maintaining ecological balance.

Overall, the works form part of the AED 30 billion Tasreef Programme, which aims to build a smart, resilient stormwater network capable of serving Dubai for the next century.
