Abu Dhabi Police have arrested 118 people in its annual anti-begging crackdown during the holy month of Ramadan.
Authorities said the violators often exploit the spirit of compassion during Ramadan, using tactics to gain sympathy and collect money illegally.
According to the UAE federal law, anyone found guilty of begging will be jailed for up to three months and fined at least AED5,000.
The authority called on the community not to respond to such practices, adding that donations should be made only through official charitable organisations to ensure support reaches those in genuine need.
