9 food items banned from UAE school canteens

Students in the UAE will no longer be able to buy chocolates or soft drinks at school.

That's because nine kinds of food have now been banned from being sold at school canteens in the country.

The list also includes processed meats, potato chips and cakes.

The Ministry of Education says it'll help children make healthier eating choices.

They've also urged parents to ensure children eat a healthy breakfast at home before going to school.

Here's what's banned:

processed meats like hot dogs indomie chocolate bars chocolate spreads like nutella candy all products containing peanuts potato chips soft drinks and energy drinks doughnuts and cakes
