Trump arrives in Milwaukee ahead of Republican convention

Former US President Donald Trump has arrived in Wisconsin to attend the Republican National Convention, just a day after surviving an assassination attempt during a rally in Pennsylvania.

Despite the shocking incident, which saw Trump reportedly shot in the ear, the party conference in Milwaukee is proceeding as scheduled.

In a social media post, Trump revealed that he had briefly considered delaying his trip by two days in response to the shooting but ultimately decided against it, stating, "I cannot allow a 'shooter,' or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else."

The assassination attempt has heightened concerns over the safety and security of the convention, which is set to begin on Monday at the arena hosting the NBA Milwaukee Bucks basketball team.

Audrey Gibson-Cicchino, the RNC coordinator for the US Secret Service, assured the public during a Sunday news conference in Milwaukee that there would be no alterations to the established security plan.

The event is anticipated to draw approximately 50,000 attendees over four days, featuring a mix of political speeches, and policy discussions as the Republican Party seeks to rally support ahead of the November general election.
