The death toll from the coronavirus has touched 54, with the number of infections totalling to 978.

That's according to the country's health ministry, which confirmed that "385 new cases of infected people" had been registered "in the last 24 hours".

Authorities have urged Iranians to avoid any unnecessary travels and stay at home to avoid the spread of the virus.

Meanwhile, the number of cases in Kuwait touched 46 on Sunday.

The majority of the cases are either people who had travelled to Iran or been in contact with people who were there.
