Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit has called on all Libyan parties to lessen tensions and resolve differences through dialogue following recent buildup of military forces near the capital, Tripoli.

In a statement, the Secretary-General of the Arab League stressed that the use of violence would only deepen the division in western Libya.

He highlighted that the League is closely monitoring the situation and warned that the continuation of this approach exposes the country to the risk of returning back into a cycle of conflict, threatening Libya's security and unity.

The Secretary-General urged the parties to engage in a serious negotiating process, stressing the Arab League's readiness to continue advancing the Libyan dialogue in efforts to enhance stability in the country, with cooperation from regional and international partners.
