UMEX and SimTEX kick off with major UAE defence deals

WAM

The UAE's Tawazun Council for Defence Enablement has announced new defence contracts worth nearly AED 880 million on the opening day of UMEX and SimTEX 2026 exhibitions in Abu Dhabi.

Four contracts were signed on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, aimed at supporting the operational readiness of the armed forces, and building strong local and international partnerships.

Tawazun spokespersons Mohammed Saif Al Zaabi and Manea Abdulkarim Al Mansouri confirmed that more contracts will be revealed over the three-day exhibition at ADNEC Centre, highlighting growing demand for unmanned systems, simulation and training solutions.

Three of the contracts were signed with EDGE Group. These include the development of SCORPIO unmanned vehicles, the conversion of a gyrocopter into an unmanned logistics aircraft, and the purchase of ANAVIA HT-100 aircraft, together valued at more than AED 712 million.

Another contract was signed with Diveco International for Military Equipment, worth over AED 167 million, for the supply of remotely operated vehicles.

Tawazun said the deals highlight the rising importance of UMEX and SimTEX as a global platform for defence innovation.

The exhibitions showcase the latest solutions and technologies in unmanned systems, simulation and training, artificial intelligence and technological applications across civilian, commercial and defence sectors.

More than 375 leading local and international companies are participating, alongside industry leaders from 38 countries.

The exhibitions feature live demonstrations and advanced interactive experiences, covering air-, land- and sea-based unmanned systems, alongside dedicated platforms to support start-ups and foster dialogue on AI, cybersecurity and the governance of future technologies.
