Tadej Pogacar became the first Slovenian to win the Tour de France when he retained the overall leader's yellow jersey after Sunday's 21st and final stage.

The UAE Team Emirates rider, who will turn 22 on Monday, is the youngest to win the race since Henri Cornet in 1904.

He snatched the yellow jersey from fellow Slovenian and strong favourite Primoz Roglic in Saturday's time trial.

Pogacar also won the white jersey for the best Under-25 rider and the polka dot jersey for the mountains classification.

Roglic ended up second, with Australian Richie Porte taking third place.

Meanwhile, Ireland's Sam Bennett won the final stage to take the green jersey, which is awarded to the best sprinter.
