The Emirates Jumping Team won silver at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya on Thursday, following a thrilling Team Final at JRA Equestrian Park that saw the battle for gold go down to the very last rider.
Sheikha Latifah Bint Ahmed Al Maktoum, Humaid Abdulla Khalifa Al Muhairi, Abdullah Humaid Al Muhairi and Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi represented the UAE.
The UAE finished on four faults, ahead of Japan, which claimed bronze on the same score but with a slower aggregate time of 226.12 seconds compared with the UAE's 218.77 seconds.
Saudi Arabia secured gold without adding a single fault to its score across the two rounds.
The UAE riders praised one another's performances, agreeing that they had arrived in Tokyo determined to win gold.
While disappointed to have narrowly missed out on the title, the team acknowledged that luck had not been on their side and took pride in their collective performance.
The silver improves on the UAE’s bronze medal from the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou, demonstrating the depth of talent within the squad.
Attention now turns to the Individual competitions, which begin on Saturday, with the finals and medal ceremonies set for Sunday.
