Elsewhere, Luca Nardi defeated Zizou Bergs 6-4, 7-6, while Marin Cilic overcame Alexei Popyrin 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals.
Felix Auger-Aliassime is also through to the next round at the ATP 500 event after recovering from a set down to defeat Nuno Borges 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
