Bencic and Badosa advance as Raducanu knocked out in Dubai

Former champion Belinda Bencic overcame Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the first round of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Monday.

British No. 1 Emma Raducanu lost to Croatia's Antonia Ruzic 1-6, 7-5, 2-6, and Paula Badosa defeated Katerina Siniakova 6-3, 7-5.

No. 12 seed Clara Tauson improved to 3-1 overall against Sofia Kenin with a 7-6, 6-2 win, while lucky loser Anastasia Zakharova defeated qualifier Moyuka Uchijima 6-2, 6-4.

Cluj-Napoca champion Sorana Cirstea extended her winning streak to six with a straight-sets defeat (6-3, 7-6) of qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich, and No. 16 seed Iva Jovic came through an oscillating three-setter (6-1, 1-6, 6-1) against Kamilla Rakhimova.

Anna Kalinskaya booked her place in Round 2 with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 win against Jelena Ostapenko. No. 14 seed Emma Navarro also advanced with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Elena-Gabriela Ruse.

An all-qualifier first round saw Varvara Gracheva defeat Rebecca Sramkova 7-5, 1-6, 6-4, while Daria Kasatkina beat Laura Siegemund 6-2, 6-3.

Elsewhere, wild card Janice Tjen advanced to the third round of a WTA 1000 event for the first time with a straight-sets defeat (7-6, 6-4) of Leylah Fernandez.
