Bayern, Liverpool and Atletico join Barca in Champions League quarters

The second-leg matches of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 concluded on Wednesday with four high-scoring fixtures, as Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona secured qualification for the quarter-finals.

Germany’s Bayern Munich continued their strong performance against Italy’s Atalanta, winning 4-1 at the Allianz Arena after a 6-1 first-leg victory, advancing with a 10-2 aggregate score.

Harry Kane struck twice to take his Champions League goal tally to 50, becoming the first English player to reach that mark.

Elsewhere, Liverpool advanced after a 4-0 victory over Galatasaray at Anfield, overturning a first-leg deficit to qualify 4-1 on aggregate.

Dominik Szoboszlai put the hosts in front in the 25th minute and they could have been ahead on aggregate before the break but Mohamed Salah had a penalty saved.

Liverpool ran riot after the break, with goals from Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch and Salah.

Spain's Atletico Madrid withstood a rousing Tottenham Hotspur fightback to progress 7-5 on aggregate despite a 3-2 loss in north London.

Although they bowed out, Tottenham did so with their pride restored as interim manager Igor Tudor enjoyed his first win in six games since taking charge, thanks to a Randal Kolo Muani header and a Xavi Simons double.

Atletico, who scored four times in the opening 22 minutes in last week's first leg home romp, wobbled under a home onslaught but goals by Julian Alvarez and David Hancko ultimately gave them breathing space.

In the quarter-finals, Diego Simeone's side will face La Liga rivals Barcelona, who defeated England’s Newcastle United 7-2 at Camp Nou, advancing 8-3 on aggregate following a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
