UAE foils attempt to smuggle 200,000 Captagon pills, dismantles criminal network

WAM

The National Drug Enforcement Authority, in coordination with security forces in the UAE and Iraq, foiled an attempt to smuggle 200,000 Captagon pills and more than 30 kg of narcotics into the UAE.

They also dismantled the international criminal network that involved 20 suspects of Gulf, Arab, African and Asian nationalities.

Authorities developed a coordinated security plan after intel shared between the UAE and Iraqi authorities revealed the network's plans to smuggle the drugs through a border area in Ras Al Khaimah.

Several of the dealers were caught while attempting to smuggle the drugs, while others were arrested in separate operations across Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman.

The seized drugs included narcotics, including cocaine, crystal meth, marijuana, hashish and synthetic cannabinoids (Spice).

Officials said the operation highlights strong coordination between law enforcement agencies in combating organised drug trafficking networks.
